Workshop: free work with felt

Discover the magic of felting

We will start with an introduction to this ancient technique from the wool of the sheep, to carding the wool and felting it with soap and water into a cloth.

No experience is necessary. You will work toward a product of your own choosing, such as a bag, scarf, lamp, a piece of jewelry or painting with wool into a tapestry.

You will learn special felting techniques such as texture, layering your work. Making strands of felt, making connections of the fibers, making a mold. It is a special experience to discover the possibilities in the world of felt. I will inspire you, advise you to deepen the techniques and guide you to objects of felt with multiple materials.

You can use branches, drijLout, or texMel such as silk, cheesecloth, different types of wool. There are many exciting techniques to apply with this material, I will be happy to teach you the ropes of felting.

Teacher: Els de Quaasteniet

Teacher

Let me introduce myself. I am Els de Quaasteniet. I completed my teacher training in visual arts in Rotterdam. I have lived for 20 years in the foothills of the Spanish Pyrenees. I sculpt in wood, stone, or combined with other materials. I paint, like to play with different printing techniques. I also find felting a beautiful technique with endless possibilities.

My work is mainly about space in the material, openness and closedness. Furthermore, people and nature play an important role in my work. I have been giving sculpture lessons in wood and stone since 1999. I also give workshops in printing techniques and working with felt. My challenge is to inspire people to create and to guide them to more depth in their work. I find great pleasure in teaching and the mutual inspiring cooperation. I hope to meet you during one of my courses.
